Arthritic Foot

Two types of arthritis can affect the foot - rheumatoid arthritis which is an auto-immune disorder, and osteo-arthritis which is a wear-and-tear/overuse condition. Both involve a degeneration of, or damage to, the cartilage within the joint which leads to roughening of the joint surfaces. Over time, the damaged surfaces no longer glide smoothly past each other when the joint bends.
