Patellar Tendonopathy

also know as Patellar Tendonopathy in an inflammation of the patellar tendon, which connects the quadriceps muscles to the tibia or shin bone. Powerful contraction of this muscle group is required for vertical movement, and this action stresses the tendon insertion site just below the kneecap. In combination with decreased flexibility which increases muscle tension and traction on the tendon, this repetitive trauma can produce inflammation and swelling. It is most often found in adolescent populations (aged 9-16).
