  1. Do I need an appointment?
    That depends on what you are coming in for. Appointments are not necessary for most bracing products with the exception of custom knee braces. If you are coming in for foot orthotics or a custom knee brace please call to book an appointment.
  2. What do I need a referral (or prescription) for?
    Referrals are necessary if you are a new client who needs custom foot orthotics or a custom knee brace. Our pedorthic licensing requires that orthotics be prescribed by a health care professional that is qualified to diagnose. Although pedorthists and bracefitters are trained in anatomy and familiar with various treatments it is not within the mandate of their positions to diagnose. It is always advised that you speak with your health care professional first if you have a suspected injury or are experiencing discomfort – this will ensure that we have success in finding you the correct solution to your problem.
  3. How long does it take to get orthotics?
    It takes 2 appointments and approximately 2 weeks for the manufacturing of orthotics. The initial assessment appointment is generally 45-60 minutes in duration and is followed 2 weeks later by a 30 minute dispense appointment.
  4. What do I need to bring to an orthotic appointment?
    You should bring your referral or prescription, pants that can be rolled up to mid-calf or shorts, a sample of the shoes that you want to wear the orthotic in, and be prepared to make a deposit if you decide to get custom foot orthotics. For exact deposit amounts please contact the SportMed store closest to you.
  5. What should I bring if I am coming in for a brace?
    Please bring your referral or prescription, shorts if you are needing a knee brace and shoes if you are wishing to try an ankle braces or over-the-counter arch supports.
  6. Do you repair orthotics?
    Yes. If your orthotics are in need of repair please bring them into one of our locations. It normally takes three working days to complete the repair work. If you want the repair done while you wait please call to book a repair appointment and please be aware that there will be an additional rush fee added onto the cost of the repair.
  7. Do you direct bill any 3rd party organizations?
    Yes, for the following organizations:
    • Workers Compensation Board
    • ICBC
    • Non-Insured Health Benefits for Status Indians
    • Department of Veterans Affairs
    • Department of National Defense
    • RCMP
    Please contact one of our stores directly to find out each organization’s specific requirements.
  8. Can you bill my extended plan directly?
    All services provided are fee-for-service and must be paid for in full at the time of service. Unfortunately we do not bill extended medical plans directly, however, we will provide you with the correct documentation so that you can seek re-imbursement from your extended medical plan.
  9. What is your guarantee on orthotics?
    We guarantee that our orthotics fit properly and can be worn comfortably, however, we do not guarantee therapeutic success or the cure of symptoms. If an orthotic cannot be worn comfortably we will make any necessary adjustments at no charge. If these adjustments do not work we will offer to remake the orthotics or refund the full cost.
  10. What is your guarantee on braces?
    Although we do not guarantee therapeutic outcomes we do guarantee that every brace or support we dispense fits you properly and comfortably. If we have dispensed an improperly fitted product we will replace it with the correct size at no charge.
  11. What is your return policy on braces, rehab & exercise and related product?
    A full refund is offered on un-used/un-worn product that is returned within 2 weeks of purchase and is in re-sellable condition. If a product is deemed to be defective we will stand behind the guarantees of our suppliers for workmanship and durability.
